Paper to be used: Square, any size; use large paper to practice with at first.
Duo or double-sided paper is recommended for this model.
Folding level: Intermediate
Steps: 13
Description: This is a flat heart that is divided down its vertical center, with two "wings" extending out on both sides. It seems as if the wings have been folded to originate from the back of the heart. If folded from paper that is colored on one side, the heart will be a different color from the wings, which makes it an attractive figure to look at.
There are also two pockets, one at the front and a smaller one at the back of the heart. Messages can be written on the front if the left and right flaps are opened as well as in the back if the wings are lifted up.
Something small could be tucked into the front pocket of the heart and the pocket at the back will let this model function as a great corner bookmark.
Remarks:
Fold this heart for Valentine's Day or any time you would like to show a little love.
This model  can be used in scrap books, on top of gifts, for enclosing cards, notes, money, any small, flat object.
Alternatively, a note can simply be folded into this model and decorated for a quick children's project or a personal touch.
If you don't like the back folds of the model showing, another option might be to fold two models and glue them together, back to back.
If you are using two-sided paper, make sure that the side you want for the front of the heart is facing down before you start to fold.
"Step 1
Place asquare of paper on your work surface and position it so that the edges are facing top and bottom, left and right.
Step 2
Bring the left edge over to meet the right edge. Crease and unfold.
Step 3
Bring the top edge down to meet the bottom edge. Crease and unfold.
Step 4
Fold both the top and bottom edges into the center. Crease well and leave folded.
Step 5
Turn your folded paper over from left to right, so you have a rectangle, still in landscape orientation with a smooth surface.
Step 6
Take the left bottom corner, which will comprise two layers, and fold it diagonally upwards and inwards so the left edge meets the top edge of the rectangle.
Leave folded.
After this fold, you should have a small, single-layered triangular flap that has been exposed on the top left of the model.
Leave this flap as is for now.
Step 7
Repeat the previous step with the right bottom corner, making sure you have a small flap peeking out on the top right side as well.
Result: Apart from the two small flaps on the left and right, you will now have a large triangle that has formed at the center of the model, that is divided down its vertical center.
Step 8
Turn your folded paper over again from left to right.
Step 9
You will have a long rectangle at the top of the model. This will be turned into the "wings" of your heart.
Fold all layers of the top edge of the model down, so you fold the rectangular band in half.
This fold will include 4 layers: the long two-layered band nearest you as well as the shorter two-layered flaps at the back of the model.
Take your time since you are dealing with many layers here. You can use the top edge of the triangle just below the band as your guide for this fold.
Crease well and leave folded.
Step 10
We are now going to make a squash fold. Concentrate on  the top center of the folded band. You will notice two small flaps that come together along the vertical center. Working with the top two layers only, gently open the two flaps at the vertical center and press them flat.
Two small triangles will form, with their points touching.
There will also be a small square to the left and right of the two small triangles.
We will work on them in Step 11.
Step 11
Now, fold the two small corners at the end of the left and right "wings" over, towards you.
 Crease well and leave folded.
You can put a dab of glue on these tips or tuck the little corners into the pockets at the end of the wings.
Step 12
Focus on the top, outer edges of the heart shape. Fold the paper back around the left and right top corners to create a rounded shape. This may take a little practice and some trial and error.
I have found that it helps to make very small folds at first and to run your finger from the outside of the fold towards the inside while pressing and shaping the paper into as round a shape as possible.
If preferred, use a dab of glue to secure the small points that have been folded back to make your heart as neat as possible.
Step 13
Flip the heart over for the last time and you are done!
