As you might gather from the title of this model, it is derived from
MDL0039 - ORIGAMI - 2D OR FLAT LANTERN
Paper to be used: Square, any size; use large paper to practice with at first;
Folding level: Easy/Beginner
Steps: 9
Description: This is a 3D desk or table. It is square with rectangles on the 4 sides, forming solid panels or "legs", making it quite sturdy as origami furniture goes.
It is also quite large, so great to use as a raised platform for any small object you want to display, or use it as a table for a doll house or other miniature scene.
Instructions:
Step 1
Fold the 2D or Flat Lantern - MDL0039, by going to the link below.

Step 2
Place your lantern so the unfolded triangles of the model are at the left and right.
Step 3
As you did for the top and bottom parts of the lantern, turn the side triangles into rectangles as well.
So, gently open the left and right triangles and squash them down so they look the same as the top and bottom rectangles of the lantern.
Step 4
Flip the model over from left to right.
Step 5
Starting with the side nearest you, fold the entire edge over to the center of the model.
Use your thumbs to find the edge of the rectangle underneath the model.
Make the fold so the entire rectangle becomes visible as you fold it over to the center.
The long side of the rectangle will now form the outside of the square along this first edge.
Step 6
Turn the model 90 degrees to the right so you can work with the next edge.
Note that the second rectangle will fold over on top of the first, so don't worry about how thick the layers become.
Step 7
Repeat the previous 2 steps until all 4 sides are folded inwards.
You will have a square of many layers now.
Step 8
Now, gently unfold each rectangle, but only until it is standing straight up, facing the ceiling, or at a 90 degree angle in relation to the folding surface.
These are the 'legs" or "sides" of your table.
Make sure the rectangles are all straight and reinforce the creases along all 4 sides.
Step 9
Lastly, flip over the model and you will be able to admire your table, a beautiful, but also very useful piece of origami furniture.
