The Fold - The Blintz Base - Part 1 - Yakko
As you might gather from the title of this model, it is derived from
MDL0039 - ORIGAMI - 2D OR FLAT LANTERN
Paper to be used: Square, any size; use large paper to practice with at first;
Folding level: Easy/Beginner
Steps: 4
Description: This is a representation of a figure, known as the Yakko or Yakko San, described as the man servant of a Samurai.
The flat model shows the upper body of the figure, with the head and two arms that are held out to the sides.
Instructions:
Step 1
Fold the 2D or Flat Lantern - MDL0039, by going to the link below.
MDL0039 - ORIGAMI - 2D OR FLAT LANTERN
Step 2
Place your lantern so the squashed rectangles of the model are at the left and right.
These will become the arms of the figure, with the small triangles on the inside of the rectangles, representing the hands.
Step 3
As you did for the left and right parts of the lantern, turn the bottom triangle into a rectangle as well, to represent the lower body of the figure.
You will now have rectangles on the left, right and bottom.
Step 4
The triangle at the top should remain as is since this forms the head of your Yakko.
You can draw or add embellishments to represent your Yakko's face.
Notes:
* You can connect two or more Yakkos by slipping the arm of one into that of the other.
* You can make a chain or garland of the Yakko figures, but you might need glue to hold the shapes together if you would like to hang the garland as a decoration.
