This is likely to be a traditional model.
If you are aware of any other source where this model or similar might be listed, please let me know so I can reference it under this heading.
Paper to be used: Square, any size; use large paper, copy or printer paper will work well, to practice with at first.
Folding level: Easy/Beginner
Steps: 9
Description: This is a rectangular envelope with a smooth front surface and at the back, a flap that tucks into a folded band or flap at the bottom of the envelope.
The two bottom corners are quite prominent and fold over the band to help keep the model closed.
Remarks:
This envelope can be used in scrap books, on top of gifts, for enclosing cards, notes, money, any small, flat object.
The model is quite secure as long as you do not fill it with things that are heavy or bulky.
These envelopes can also be used for advent calenders. Secure with a sticker or a dab of glue after they have been filled.
Alternatively, a note can simply be folded into this model and decorated for a quick children's project or a personal touch.
If using two-sided paper, lay your paper with the patterned or colored side down before starting to fold.
Step 1
Place a square of paper on your work surface and position it so that the edges are at the top and bottom, left and right.
Step 2
Bring the top edge down to meet the bottom edge. Crease and unfold.
Step 3
Fold the bottom edge up to meet the center. Crease and unfold.
Step 4
Fold the bottom edge up again, to the new crease that were made.
You will have a small band, an eighth of the original square, folded over at the bottom edge.
Step 5
Fold the band up once, over on itself, so your bottom raw edge will now be enclosed and have 3 layers.
Step 6
Next, fold very small corners at the left and right bottom of the model. The corners should be diagonal towards the inside of the model and they should not pass the top edge of the small folded band.
They will actually lie on top of the folded band.
Step 7
Using the small corners as a guide, fold the left and right sides of the paper over toward the center.
The corners will fold over on themselves and will now be hidden. You should have bands running up and down the model on the left and right sides with an unfolded space at the center.
The thin band will still be at the bottom of your model.
Step 8
Fold the top corners inwards and downwards so they meet each other at the vertical center line of the model. Crease well and leave them folded.
Step 9
Lastly, fold the top triangle down and tuck it into the band at the bottom. Make a strong crease to form the new top edge of your envelope.
